Johannesburg - A baby boy miraculously survived when he fell from the seventh floor of a flat and landed on the first floor.

The 18-month-old boy did not suffer any broken bones or fractures during the fall.

Speaking to The Star yesterday, a doctor who treated the boy said it was a miracle he had survived.

“Maybe there was a guardian angel that was protecting him. He did not have broken bones, ribs, limbs or any fractures. We kept him overnight just to make sure we did not miss anything. But the following day we still didn’t find anything wrong with him and discharged him,” explained the doctor, who wants to remain anonymous.

The boy was rushed to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital on Sunday after the fall. The child lives with his parents in a block of flats in the Joburg CBD.

“That was one miraculous escape. When we examined him he did not even look traumatised or shaken by what had just happened to him,” said the doctor.

It was not immediately clear how the boy had fallen.

The doctor said that normally when a person falls from such a height, they die or suffer broken skulls, limbs and injuries to the abdomen.

“Others don’t even get to be treated in hospital because they die almost immediately. That’s how serious falling from heights is,” he said.

The doctor said the parents of the boy were grateful that he had survived.

The boy was discharged on Monday.
