Johannesburg - Parts of Johannesburg's West Rand experienced water supply problems on Monday due to problems with electricity at a pump station.

“Please note that Randwater is experiencing electrical failure in their Eikenhof pump station due to Eskom and thus cannot supply water,” Johannesburg Water said on its official Twitter account.

Eskom spokesman Andrew Etzinger could not immediately confirm a problem with power in the vicinity of the pump station.

A recording on the City of Johannesburg's services helpline said: “We do not have an estimated time for when the water will be back yet”.

Randwater could not immediately be reached for comment.

Areas affected by the water cuts included Bergbron, Weltevreden Park, Honeydew, Randpark Ridge, Radiokop, Strubens Valley, Little Falls, Ruimsig, Allensnek and Florida.
