Johannesburg - A woman was killed and a man critically injured when the cars they were travelling in collided head-on on Khutsong Road in Carletonville, Gauteng, paramedics said on Friday.

Paramedics found two mangled vehicles in the middle of the road, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“The two drivers lay in the middle of the road next to their vehicles. Both drivers were in a critical condition.”

He said they had been pulled out of their respective cars by members of the public.

The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. The woman was taken by ambulance to Khutsong hospital but died upon arrival.
