Prince Albert of Monaco and his South African wife, Princess Charlene, walked the green carpet at the Oyster Box Hotel on Tuesday, in honour of the Cop17 climate change conference.
Although the Princess was tired from her flight, she agreed to a quick photo call, before the royals were escorted to their villa.
The hotel is chock-a-block with Cop17 delegates, and some of the big spenders have been enjoying the high life after their hectic sessions at the global conference.
One guest from the Middle East called for the hotel’s sommelier on Monday night and ordered a 1982 bottle of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. It set him back a cool R52 000.
Dom Perignon Rosé was also being sold at R7 000 a bottle.
One French-speaking guest ordered his special delicacy: horse meat. Beluga caviar has also been flown in from Paris for some guests, while paté foie gras has come from Harrods in London for others.
And the hotel gift shop has been doing brisk business as well, including selling two cobra skin handbags, each costing R45 000.
Actor Harrison Ford was due to take part in a Cop17 discussion on Wednesday on biodiversity, climate change and sustainable development.
