Durban - There was relief on Tuesday night after news on Facebook that the Oyster Box Hotel’s royal feline mascot Skabenga, who went missing on Sunday, had been found.

A post on the cat’s Facebook page run by the hotel read: “He was found in Phoenix. A gentleman brought him to the hotel late this afternoon. Thank you everyone for all your prayers, support and advice. We are relieved beyond belief.”

Sally Gray, the hotel’s general manager of sales, had said earlier that it was the first time the cat had gone missing.

They had checked all his usual hiding spots.

The hotel had offered a “substantial financial reward” to anyone who would assist in finding him.

Messages of support poured in to his Facebook page after he was reported missing, but on Tuesday night his fans were over the moon

Known for his taste for the finer things in life, the former stray is loved by locals and the hotel’s guests.

Concerned fans expressed their joy but also suggested safety measures.

Deirdre Pineo wrote: “What a story Skabenga would have to tell, if only he could tell us about his unwanted adventures.”

David Ward said: “He always climbs into cars.”

Tracy Lyle wrote: “Aaaah, that’s what I thought, I was sure he’d climbed into someone’s car and had a nap. So relieved he’s safe. Gosh, he needs a full-time butler to ensure his safety.”

Michelle Kidd wrote: “My word - need to keep security on full alert each time a car leaves. Poor Royal Kitty! Yay - just overjoyed. “

Jess Sathiest wrote: “Best news to end the day.

“The worst kinds of thoughts were going through my head, but this precious boy is back where he belongs. Please microchip him so he will always find his way back.”
