Durban - Two people were killed and four others injured when a minibus taxi collided with an SUV in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal, paramedics said on Monday.

“Paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene and found the SUV parked on the side of the road,” said ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring.

“A second vehicle, a wrecked taxi, lay on its side at the bottom of a small embankment.”

Two other patients found lying outside the vehicle were treated and stabilised at the scene.

“Once treated, both patients were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Unfortunately, upon arrival at hospital, one of the critically injured patients succumbed to his injuries,” said Meiring.

Three other occupants from the taxi were found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries. They were treated and transported to a nearby hospital.

The occupants from the SUV did not suffer any injuries. The cause of the accident was not known.
