Johannesburg - Twelve people died when a truck and a minibus taxi collided on the N1 south of Naboomspruit in Limpopo on Thursday morning, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) said.

Spokesman Simon Zwane said the RTMC would investigate the crash that happened at around 1am.

“It is believed that the vehicles collided head-on after which the minibus caught fire. The real cause of the accident is unclear at this early stage,” he said.

“The RTMC would like to caution motorists to be extra careful when driving at night or early hours of the morning as this is a period generally associated with high accidents.”

More details of the crash were not immediately available.
