Johannesburg - The Civil Authority of SA has launched an investigation into a helicopter crash that claimed two lives in Limpopo, police said.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Ronel Otto said the pilot, David Boul, died along with passenger Ronald Matsunga when the helicopter hit an electric pole and burst into flames on Tuesday.

“The third passenger, Phineas Sekwela either fell or jumped from the helicopter before it crashed and was injured when he hit the electric cables,” Otto said on Wednesday. “He was transferred to the Helen Frans hospital.”

The helicopter had experienced a mechanical failure and crashed during installation of antennas along the mountain range.
