Pretoria - The man gored by a wounded buffalo at the Pafuri River Camp near the Kruger National Park is still fighting for his life in the Polokwane Provincial Hospital.

The 66-year-old’s daughter, who asked not be named, on Sunday confirmed her father was still in the intensive care unit of the hospital in a critical but stable condition.

“We’re taking each day as it comes and are hoping for the best. But he is not doing well,” she said.

The man was on an early morning bird walk with a friend when he was attacked and flung into the air by a buffalo more than a week ago.

The buffalo was said by local residents to have escaped an earlier hunting incident in the northern part of the Kruger National Park.

“We have to have hope that he will recover; he’s a strong man,” she said.

She said they had heard and read inaccurate reports and would give more details later.

“Right now, we just want my father to recover fully and then we will clarify what happened that day,” she said.

Kruger National Park spokesman William Mabasa said it happened outside their jurisdiction.
