Tzaneen - A man in his 30s was allegedly killed by a buffalo on a farm in Limpopo on Sunday.

The animal attacked the man at a farm in Gravelotte outside Tzaneen, according to ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring.

“It is believed that the man had been putting out the feed for the animals when the buffalo charged through an open gate,” he said.

Meiring said paramedics were called in and found the man’s lifeless body on the ground.

“Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead,” he said, adding that police would investigate the cause of the incident.

Russel said he did not have the name of the farm where the attack took place.

Limpopo police spokeswoman Colonel Ronel Otto could not immediately confirm the incident.

She said she had tried unsuccessfully to contact her colleagues at the Gravelotte police station for details, but had been unsuccessful.

“The moment I have the details I will let you know,” Otto said on Sunday.
