Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday sent condolences to the families of Limpopo's education MEC and an ANC veteran.

“On behalf of government and all the people of South Africa, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the premier of Limpopo province and the entire provincial government on losing such outstanding leaders,” he said in a statement.

Education MEC Thembisile Nwendamutswu died in a private hospital in Pretoria on Friday. ANC veteran Nelson Diale died in Jane Furse, Limpopo, on Thursday, ANC provincial secretary Knocks Seabi said.

“It is very sad that we lost two leaders of this calibre... May their souls rest in peace,” Zuma said.

Nwendamutshu was the Limpopo MEC for education and the provincial African National Congress treasurer.

Diale was a stalwart of the liberation struggle, a former Member of Parliament and a recipient of the National Order of Luthuli, Zuma said.

The ANC in Limpopo said it would ask government to ensure that the two receive official funerals.
