Sales of Nelson Mandela medallions showed a strong rise in the past week, the SA Gold Coin Exchange said on Thursday.

“There was an huge increase in local and international people looking to buy Mandela medallions,” said marketing general manager Johan Renecke.

“People want something that represents him (Mandela).”

Renecke was unable to give the exact number of medallions purchased since the former president died last week. - Sapa
