Johannesburg - National police commissioner Riah Phiyega on Sunday announced the appointment of the new Mpumalanga police commissioner.

“The purpose of this session is to introduce our new provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mark Dumisa Magadlela, to the management team of the SAPS (South African Police Service) in the province and the broader public,” she said in a speech prepared for delivery.

Magadlela was previously the Eastern Cape deputy provincial commissioner for crime detection.

“Myself, the entire leadership team of SAPS and I'm certain the people of this province, are tired of criminal cops.

“I want you to use your detective and leadership abilities to pursue these criminal cops relentlessly,” she told Magadlela.

Phiyega urged Magadlela to sort out the province's technological hassles with police systems, to fill vacancies and to resolve resource-related issues.
