Johannesburg - Six people died in a collision between an articulated truck and two motor vehicles on the N17 near Delmas, Mpumalanga, on Tuesday, paramedics said.

“Paramedics arrived on the horror scene where they found people scattered across the incident,” said ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak.

“One of the vehicles was completely ripped apart and all of its occupants were ejected during the collision.”

Three people from the vehicle were declared dead on the scene.

In the second car, a woman had died and was trapped inside it.

Two other occupants, believed to be her husband and son, were found close to the vehicle, said Vermaak.

“All three of them showed no signs of life and were declared dead. The local fire and rescue services had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to free her from the wreckage.”

The driver of the articulated truck sustained no physical injuries and was found walking around on the scene in shock, said Vermaak.

The exact cause of the accident was not yet known. - Sapa
