Nelspruit - Six people were killed in an accident on the R40 between White River and Hazyview in Mpumalanga on Thursday, the community safety department said.
The six were farmworkers being transported to White River on the back of a truck, said spokesman Moeti Mmusi.
“According to eyewitnesses, the truck was travelling on the yellow line and was being followed by a panel van.
“The panel van attempted to overtake but the truck decided to move from the yellow lane and back into the correct lane.”
The two vehicles collided and both of them overturned.
“Ten people were seriously injured and they were rushed to a nearby hospital. One person who had critical injuries was airlifted to hospital,” said Mmusi.
The drivers of the truck and panel van escaped the incident with only slight injuries.
