Chinese tourists killed in Brits crash

Brits - Three Chinese tourists were killed and 15 injured in a road accident in Brits, North West, Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom said on Friday.

A bakkie which was overtaking collided with the minibus carrying the tourists on Wednesday afternoon, he said.

The bakkie driver suffered slight injuries. The tourists were on a six-day trip organised by Walk Through Africa Tours.

“We are truly saddened by this tragic incident,” Hanekom said in a statement.

“On behalf of the government and people of South Africa, I would like to extend our sincere condolences and sympathy to the families and friends of those who have passed on.”

North West community safety and transport management MEC Gaoage Molapisi said: “We cannot continue to lose people because of roads accidents at the rate which is happening now. The country is losing a lot of money and human resource 1/8through 3/8 these fatalities and that cannot be tolerated.”
