Pretoria - The family of Zandrè Vosloo, the toddler who drowned at Hartbeespoort Dam at the weekend has lambasted those seeking to “sensationalise” the tragedy.

A statement issued by legal firm Mario Coetzee Attorneys in the name of the parents and immediate families, states that the parents are severely traumatised by the horrific accident and the death of Zandrè, described as “beautiful, vivacious and spontaneous”. He would have been two in June.

They ask for their privacy to be respected so they could grieve and bury their son.

They say they couldn’t comment now, but offered to provide a full statement on the events leading up to the accident once the inquest has been finalised.

While noting the Pretoria News’s professionalism in reporting the matter, they distanced themselves from some claims made in other media by those purporting to be witnesses. The statement says that some allegations made as to the circumstances or events leading up to the incident are “categorically untrue, salacious and sensationalistic, and will be proven to be so at the hearing of this matter”.

They say they are considering legal action against any further “wrongful and malicious” statements and also challenge the unauthorised publication of photographs of their son.
