Johannesburg - Heavy rains have caused havoc in the North West, with Mogwase the latest place to be affected by floods.

“Heavy storms have led to over-flooding on the bridges in and outside Mogwase township on Thursday afternoon.... near Sun City,” Moses Kotane Local Municipality spokeswoman Beauty Makganye said in a statement.

Affected areas included a bridge in Mogwase Unit 01, Mabele-a-podi village, Ledig bridge and the bridge between Mogwase and Lerome village, passing Manyane Gate Lodge.

Makganye said several cars were reportedly trapped in the water as a result of the storm.

“Disaster management, SAPS and traffic officials are currently directing traffic in some affected areas. Motorists are therefore warned not to use the roads due to risks involved,” she said.
