Johannesburg - North West towns under the Ditsobotla District Municipality could suffer interrupted water supply for months due to infrastructure upgrades, Beeld newspaper reported on Wednesday.

“There will be water shortages until the upgrades are completed,” municipal spokesman Pius Batsile was quoted as saying.

When asked how long the work would take, he said, “maybe a few months”.

According to Batsile a contractor had been appointed to do the upgrades.

A Coligny resident Dr Herman Meyer told Beeld the town had been without a proper water supply for 15 days.

“The water comes sporadically and then it goes off again for days,” he reportedly said.

Democratic Alliance councillor Hannes Fourie said Lichtenburg had also been hit hard by the shortages.

“There's only water for a few hours per day,” he told the Afrikaans daily.
