Johannesburg - The future of a North West teacher who allegedly provided pupils with exam answers through WhatsApp hangs in the balance.

The North West Education Department is investigating the allegation after it was brought to its attention by the DA.

Last week, it emerged that pupils who sat for their life sciences paper on Thursday at Monchusi Senior Secondary School in Morokweng in the district of Vryburg were provided with answers on their cellphones.

The DA’s North West spokesman on education, Dr Tutu Faleni, visited the school on Friday where, he said, pupils claimed they were sent an exam memorandum via WhatsApp.

Faleni called for disciplinary action against the teacher.

North West Education Department spokesman Elias Malindi said officials from the circuit office had gone to the school to verify the allegations.

“They also went to the homes of the pupils where they found the answers on their phones.

“The investigations are still in progress, and the outcome will determine the disciplinary processes which will be initiated against the teacher,” Malindi said.
