The Northern Cape mother who is accused of killing five of her children made them drink brake fluid before she allegedly drowned them, the Sowetan reported on Wednesday.
Venolia Siwa, 35, allegedly forced her children to drink a cocktail of brake fluid and cool drink but then drowned them when she thought they were not dying quickly enough.
Siwa apparently fetched two of her children from school and took them to her grandmother's house where the other three were waiting, the paper reported.
She had apparently asked her nephew to fill the bathtub for her and said she wanted to do the laundry when she got back from picking up her children from school.
She gave the children the concoction and drank some as well. The children were aged between two and 13. A family member found the bodies of the children at the house.
On Wednesday, Siwa appeared in the Pampierstad Magistrate's Court where she was ordered to spend 30 days at a mental institution for evaluation. – Sapa
