Kimberley - Two women were killed when their car collided with a truck between Barkly West and Kimberley on Friday afternoon, Northern Cape police said.

The driver lost control of the red Daewoo when a tyre burst while they were travelling on the R31 towards Barkly West around 4pm, Lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana said in a statement.

They collided with a truck going in the opposite direction. The two women, in their 30s, died on the scene and had to be cut from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life.

The truck driver and his passenger were unhurt.
