Johannesburg - The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania on Friday sent its condolences to the Mandela family following the death of former president Nelson Mandela.

“To the Madiba family, and to his political family, the African National Congress, we hope you will find solace in the fact that you have given the world one of its rarest gifts. Farewell Madiba,” it said in a statement.

“The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania dips its flag in honour of the departed soul of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.”

The party said Mandela epitomised the struggle against apartheid.

“As the bereaved nation struggles to find its way without its founding father, let us preserve the enduring legacy of reconciliation that Madiba bequeathed us.”

Mandela died at his Houghton home in Johannesburg on Thursday night. He was 95.
