Paralympics champion Oscar Pistorius is considering legal action after being told he would not be prosecuted on a charge of assaulting a woman last month.

The 22-year-old athlete said he was informed that, after a "thorough and detailed investigation" of the events of September 12, 2009, the State had declined to prosecute him.

Pistorius spent that night in a Boschkop police cell after 19-year-old Cassidy Taylor-Memmory apparently accused him of assaulting her.

Police earlier said the "Blade Runner" was hosting a party at his Pretoria home.

It was alleged that Taylor-Memmory got involved in a row and that Pistorius instructed those involved to go outside.

The woman allegedly started a row with Pistorius's girlfriend and, after again asking her to leave, Pistorius closed the door. One of the panels allegedly fell on her leg.

In a statement to the electronic paper, Richmark Sentinel, Pistorius said his lawyers and he were evaluating the "scope, nature and extent of such damages actions that may be instituted against various parties in the near future".
