Johannesburg - The power system is severely constrained due to technical faults on power stations, Eskom said on Thursday.
“Units that were on maintenance have experienced outage slips, which means the units could not be returned back online on their due date from the outage,” the power utility said in a statement.
Eskom has alerted its key industrial customers and requires them to reduce their load by a minimum of 10 percent as from 5pm on Thursday.
“Should we not achieve the required energy savings, we may need to go into load-shedding from 6pm until 10pm tonight.”
Eskom called on consumers to switch off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances from 5.30pm to 10pm to prevent the need for rotational load-shedding.
Load-shedding schedules were available on the Eskom website, (http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za/).
