Cape Town - Sixteen people were injured on Tuesday afternoon when a school bus and light motor vehicle collided on the Walter Sisulu Drive in Khayelitsha, near Cape Town, ER24 reported.

When ER24 paramedics, along with Metro services, arrived on scene they found the wrecked light motor vehicle and bus parked on the side of the road, partially blocking the traffic. Parts of both vehicles were spread across the scene.

“On assessment, paramedics discovered two occupants from the light motor vehicle had sustained critical and moderate injuries while 14 children from the bus sustained only minor injuries,” ER24 said.

Rescue services carefully removed the two patients from the light motor vehicle and provided them with advanced life support. Once stable, the patients were transported to Khayelitsha Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The children from the bus were treated for their minor injuries and thereafter transported to Khayelitsha Day Hospital for further observations.

Traffic was heavily affected during and after the collision due to the road being closed ER24 said.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
