Cape Town – Some 20 people were injured when grandstands collapsed at a stadium in Worcester during a sport event on Saturday, according to media reports.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring was reported as having said ER24 paramedics and other emergency services found people lying on the ground near the collapsed stands at Esselen Park Stadium.

Twenty people had sustained minor to moderate injuries, but there were no serious or fatal injuries, he reportedly said.

The injured were taken to hospital. According to a Facebook post, about 20 000 people attended the event.
