Cape Town - When actor Boris Kodjoe arrived in Cape Town to film a Deon Meyer thriller, little did he know that one of his first investigations would be into load shedding.

Kodjoe, who has been cast in the role of Sanct Snook in the TV adaption of Meyer’s detective novel Cape Town, posted a selfie of himself looking despondent on Wednesday after the lights went out.

“Somebody google ‘Load Shedding’. That’s what just happened here and I’m sitting in the dark,” he wrote on Facebook, with the hashtag #GotNoCandles.

South Africans took to social media to enlighten him, some light-heartedly and others seemingly sincere.

“You (are) in SA for real now!!! Now let’s go to Nando’s for a good laugh session,” posted Anda Venture.

“Welcome to South Africa!! Use the time to meditate,” suggested Nana Dlamini.

“You’ve been in SA long enough I think its time we offer you citizenship,” posted Amaru Josephs on Facebook.

Others tried to explain to him how load shedding worked.

“Don’t stress too much it is only stage 1 tonight, should come back after an hour,” posted Mosebyadi Mahlobogoane, familiarising him with load-shedding schedules.

Some users reminded the 42-year-old German-born actor who lives in the US that candles are a must. “Don’t stress, its part of life here... Get lots of candles next time u go out,” wrote Phumelele Msimango.

Cape Town, starring Kodjoe and Norwegian actor Trond Espen Seim, started shooting in the city in the middle of March.
