Cape Town - A baby died and 10 people were injured when a minibus taxi collided with a car in Silversands near Cape Town, paramedics said on Monday.

The vehicles collided on Sunday evening on Hindle Road, said Netcare 911 spokeswoman Luyanda Majija.

The baby was found dead in a car when the paramedics arrived.

“Three of the critically injured commuters were entrapped in the taxi.”

Majija said while they were being removed from the taxi, it caught fire but it was quickly extinguished.

All the injured were treated on the scene before they were taken to hospital.

“The incident is currently under investigation by local authorities,” Majija said. - Sapa
