Cape Town - There will not be any Christmas cheer for a Cape Flats family after their home and all their possessions went up in smoke.

Likita Abrahams, 23, says she and her four sons - aged, eight, five, three and 18 months - literally have nothing except the clothes on their backs.

“We are only left with the clothes we are wearing now,” she says after Wednesday’s fire.

“I don’t know how we are going to make it after this, I lost everything…all my documents including my children’s Christmas lay-bye slips and my ID, so now I cant even get their clothes for Christmas.”

The fire started about 9am when Likita was cleaning in the main house in Bloubos street, Eastridge, Mitchells Plain, while her kids were in the backyard Wendy house.

Likita says her five-year-old son came running to tell her the bed was burning.

She dashed out to grab her little baby who was still in the cot.

“I couldn’t save anything but I grabbed my kids because I just imagined them dying in the fire,” she says.

Likita who is unemployed, depends on her children’s maintenance and grant money as their only income.

“I am so afraid now because I don’t know what to do, I will stay in a single room with my kids until I’m sorted.”
