Cape Town - In a bid to ensure greater visibility and enforcement of traffic law, the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works would on Monday welcome 30 new trainees into a 12-month programme.

“Together with these new recruits and our partners, we can make progress with our ongoing efforts to reduce the high number of road traffic injuries and fatalities,” said Provincial Traffic Chief Kenny Africa.

The 30 trainees, recruited from across the province, would begin their training on Monday August 3 at the Gene Louw Traffic College in Brackenfell, Cape Town.

As a fully accredited institution, graduation from the college would ensure successful trainees obtained their Further Education and Training certificate in Road Traffic Law Enforcement.

Africa said adding these 30 trainees to the force, an ongoing process within the department, would strengthen the operational deployment strategy.

“This includes increasing visibility on roads, and enforcing legislation against moving violations, reckless driving, drink and driving, and seat belt requirements.”
