Cape Town - The City of Cape Town on Friday unveiled its newly renovated Biodiversity Showcase Garden Environmental Education Centre close to the city’s landmark Greeen Point Park precinct.

The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Environmental and Spatial Planning, Johan van der Merwe, opened the centre in Mouille Point.

The City said the centre could accommodate 100 people and was equipped with chairs and tables, as well as audio-visual and kitchen equipment for events. The outside braai area, landscaped garden areas and parking available made this an ideal venue for a range of events such as training, workshops, events, birthday parties, weddings, year-end functions and team-building days.

“It gives me great pleasure to be able to open this centre for all residents to enjoy for many years to come,” Van der Merwe said. “I am thrilled that the City was able to renovate this centrally located building and create such an inspiring and beautiful space. This project demonstrates how we are working towards getting more value out of City-owned properties, while expanding our various environmental education programmes.

“Investing in facilities like this and environmental education will always form part of the City’s efforts to continually remind Capetonians that it is everyone’s responsibility to preserve the precious resource that it is our breath-taking natural surroundings,” he said.

The venue was available at reasonable tariffs, with both half-day and full-day hiring options (which include the use of the hall and kitchen).
