Cape Town - The world famous and scenic Chapman’s Peak would remain closed until further notice, the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works said in a statement on Friday.

“Travelling through the drive has become dangerous due to inclement weather conditions,” said the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works.

The department cautioned that road users could expect more road closures along the drive during the winter season “due to unknown and possible risk factors”.

The department said that “Entilini, the concessionaire managing the drive on behalf of the Western Cape Government, will be monitoring the situation until winds and rainy weather subsides”.

The drive would be re-opened once deemed safe for motorists.

Chapman’s Peak drive was initially closed on May 26 due to potential rockfalls due to the onset of winter.
