Cape Town - A truck overturned on the N2 in Cape Town on Thursday morning injuring the driver and three passengers and causing a traffic jam on the highway.

The truck overturned on the N2 outbound near Baden Powell Drive at 7.50am, according to city council traffic services spokesman Richard Coleman.

“The driver of the truck which was carrying sachets of milk lost control of the vehicle and overturned. The driver is seriously injured and three others suffered slight injuries, and were all taken to Tygerberg hospital.”

Coleman said the N2 remained closed at the time of going to press and would remain so until the truck was moved.

He said that traffic had been re-directed to Baden Powell Drive.

Mayco member for safety and security JP Smith recently said it was important that drivers familiarised themselves with their routes. He also said it was important that drivers had the right technical skills and got enough rest when on the job.

He appealed to vehicle owners to make sure that their vehicles were mechanically sound and regularly serviced.
