Cape Town - A high spring tide has swept up beaches in the city, leaving debris in its wake.

December 26 is traditionally a day when many Capetonians head to the beach.

Clifton resident Cyril Harrisberg says that Clifton 4th beach has been swept away.

“Vendors’ beach chairs, usually secured at the back of 4th beach, were picked up and scattered by the churning waves, “ he wrote.

“ The crashing waves covered the whole beach and lapped up at the pathway steps at the back of Clifton 4th beach, washing into the public facilities. This is very unusual for this time of year.”

Residents in Kommetjie and Hout Bay are posting pictures of the devastation on Facebook.
