Cape Town - Staff at a city centre pub where a doorman was stabbed to death two months ago in an attack that rocked Long Street are not deterred by the possibility that his killer could still be on the loose.

This week Randolf Jorberg, the owner of Beerhouse, told Weekend Argus he and his staff were focused on supporting the family of doorman Joe Kanyona.

“Our focus is not on the murderer,” he said,

Kanyona, 33, was stabbed once in the neck at the pub’s door on June 20.

On Tuesday three men accused of plotting to kill him - Ubaid van der Bergh, 20, Toufieq Essa, 21, and Nasbie Edwards, 27 - were denied bail in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.

The case was postponed to next month.

During the bail application it emerged that a fourth suspect, known as both Ashley and Sebastian, had apparently been the knifeman.

It had also emerged that police had only a split second of CCTV footage, which apparently showed Ashley’s shadow, linking him to the crime.

Officers were trying to track Ashley down.

This week Jorberg said he had heard about these developments, but he said this had not fazed him or his staff.

“We lost a family member. Our focus is on supporting his family and his child, who is now about seven months old.”

The Beerhouse has upped security.
