Cape Town - Management at an upmarket restaurant in Bantry Bay has apologised to one of its patrons for an incident that ended in alleged death threats at the weekend.

They have also apologised to the Cape Times for giving a false statement.

Michael Farr and his family had been out celebrating his daughter’s 21st birthday at Koi restaurant at the Ambassador Hotel in Bantry Bay when fellow patrons allegedly became rowdy.

Farr said he had approached the restaurant management to ask the patrons to tone down their noise levels.

When management did not do so, Farr then asked the patrons to quieten down. That is when Farr alleges the patron had threatened to beat him up and throw him over the restaurant’s balcony.

Freddie Muzandaka, the manager on duty at the time, previously denied that he or any of his staff were approached to ask the patrons to lower their voices.

Muzandaka had told the Cape Times that when he witnessed the argument between Farr and the patron, he asked the man to leave.

On Monday, Muzandaka said: “I, Freddie Muzandaka, apologise for stating that none of my staff were approached by Mr Farr to ask the patrons to lower their voices.

“It has come to my attention that the hostess had been approached by Mr Farr, but that she had not informed me at the time. My apologies for this false statement and any inconvenience caused.”

Farr said restaurant owner Bonita Bailey had called him on Monday and apologised for the incident.

She offered to host another 21st birthday party for his daughter at the restaurant.

Farr said he would have to consult his daughter, who was still distressed.

Farr said he was working with management to retrieve restaurant video footage in order to open a case with the police.
