Cape Town -

Six people were injured and one left in a critical condition after two vehicles overturned on the N2 outbound near Jan Smuts Drive on Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 2am on Wednesday, paramedics arrived on the scene where they found two mangled vehicles, a bakkie and a light motor vehicle, said ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak.

“Five people were found scattered about at the scene. It is understood the majority of them were sitting in the back of the bakkie that overturned. The injured, aged between 16 and 25, had various head and body injuries,” he said.

One man was found in a critical condition after he was flung from the bakkie in the collision.

“Two people from the light motor vehicle also had various injuries. Metro Rescue Services had to remove the roof of the vehicle to free one of the trapped occupants,” Vermaak said.

They were later transported to Groote Schuur and New Somerset Hospital.

The cause of the accident is not yet known.
