Cape Town - The City of Cape Town's transport authority, Transport for Cape Town, expects a key road which was severely damaged by flash floods earlier this month to be completed by the end of November.
Heavy rains at the beginning of November weakened Strandfontein Road, between Govan Mbeki Road and Ottery Road, to such an extent that it collapsed, posing a hazard to motorists.
Councillor Brett Herron, the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Transport for Cape Town, said on Tuesday that the road had been closed to allow a professional team of structural engineers to investigate possible repair solutions.
Herron said a bypass road was being constructed for motorists to use. “Traffic will be allowed on this section once the bypass has been completed and the road is safe again for road users,” said Herron.
