Cape Town - Water is in short supply in parts of the Cape West Coast, the Saldanha Bay municipality said on Tuesday.
The municipality said in a statement on its website, the telemetric equipment used to monitor water levels in reservoirs had indicated a communication failure between the monitoring levels and the real time levels of water in two supplying reservoirs.
“This may have contributed to the decreasing water levels over time of which Saldanha Bay Municipality became aware of late Friday afternoon.”
Vredenburg and Paternoster were affected.
The municipality said water demand management had since been applied to restore water levels in the reservoirs, which might cause water supply and pressure interruption to certain affected residential areas.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and urge residents not to use water excessively as there are still residents and areas without water.”
Arrangements had been made to deliver drinking water to households without, and water should be boiled before consumption.
“We are doing all we can to solve the problem and would appreciate your co-operation and assistance in this regard,” the municipality said.
