The ANC is expected to make an announcement about the future of its suspended youth league president Julius Malema on Wednesday.

Spokesman Jackson Mthembu said the national disciplinary committee (NDC) would meet on Wednesday to finalise discussion on Malema.

“I can confirm there will be a meeting today (Wednesday). The ANC will issue a statement, we always communicate our decision after due process,” he said.

Mthembu said the statement would be issued “later today (Wednesday)”.

The ANC's national disciplinary committee of appeal (NDCA) upheld the conviction of Malema and five ANCYL officials for bringing the party into disrepute and sowing division.

Malema was suspended for five years. ANCYL spokesman Floyd Shivambu deputy president Ronald Lamola, treasurer general Pule Mabe, secretary general Sindiso Magaqa and deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi were also suspended for periods ranging from 18 months to three years.

Their appeal against their sentences was dismissed, but they were granted leave to present evidence in mitigation. The sentences were suspended pending the outcome of the hearings. - Sapa
