Bloemfontein - Axed ANC Youth League president Julius Malema's plight will not be discussed in Mangaung, party secretary-general Gwede Mantashe said on Wednesday.

A letter by Malema asking for his job back was too late for the programme of the ANC's national conference, Mantashe told reporters in Bloemfontein.

He said the letter surfaced on December 16, on the first day of the ANC's national elective conference, and after the programme was adopted.

Ousted ANCYL spokesman Floyd Shivambu said on Monday he, along with Malema and former ANCYL secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa, submitted the letter on Sunday to ask the party to “reverse the outcomes... that culminated in our suspensions and expulsion from the ANC”.

The three said they were willing to behave appropriately in future.

“We remain loyal supporters and members of the ANC willing to be corrected and guided under its principles.”

The trio said they had not gone to court because they believed the national conference should take another look at the disciplinary process that led to their expulsion.

Mantashe said the Malema matter had been “handled and was done” by the party's disciplinary structures.

“It was exhausted and finished.”

He acknowledged it could have been handled at the conference, but the letter had arrived too late. - Sapa
