Johannesburg -

The African National Congress Youth League held a tribute to former president Nelson Mandela at his old home in Vilakazi Street, Soweto, on Sunday afternoon.

Hundreds of people gathered in front of the party's truck, from where music was being played.

“Today we are here to celebrate our former president. We are here to remind young people that the walk that Mandela spoke about has not completed. We are still continuing,” the party's spokesman Bandile Masuku said.

Local musicians and celebrities also arrived to be part of the tribute. They included Zahara, Ntando Bangani and DJ Sbu of Metro FM.

“We are going to have a lot of entertainment. Zahara and Ntando will be performing. We will be having fun in the name of Madiba because we are here to celebrate him.”

People watched and cheered as Zahara performed a song about Mandela.

They sang along and danced despite the rain. Few people had umbrellas. - Sapa
