Johannesburg - An artist was spray painting a life-sized portrait of Nelson Mandela outside his former home in Vilakazi Street in Orlando West in Soweto on Monday.

“This is my way of giving back to Tata for what he did for us. I want to share his beauty with the world,” said artist Lesego Vorster, 25, from Soweto.

Vorster works with Avaaz, an online campaign which highlights human rights issues around the world.

“We are here to spread Mandela's message to the world. He was iconic in terms of human rights,” said Avaaz director Sam Barratt.
