Johannesburg - In death, once again, former president Nelson Mandela brought South Africans together.

In the streets and offices of Johannesburg, workers spontaneously greeted and talked to each other on Friday morning, discussing the iconic leader's death.

The mood was rather upbeat, despite the overcast weather, with people celebrating Mandela's long and eventful life.

A newspaper seller sang songs of praise in honour of Madiba.

Newspaper posters featuring pictures of the late statesman adorned lamp posts along the city's main thoroughfares.
