As the streets of the Mother City was being cordoned off for the State of the Nation address being delivered in Parliament on Thursday night, a few Cape Town residents told IOL what they think President Jacob Zuma should focus on.

Robert Blenjana, 31, a security guard in Long Street said the president should make bigger effort at bringing the nation together.

Nozipho, a fishmonger, said she knows “nothing he says tonight will be good, because there is no work”.

Brian Smith, from Kensington, also wanted Zuma’s main focus to be job creation. “He should engage with business and aid them in creating more employment,” he said.

Faizel Bhawoodien said: “The Presidency should stop looking to foreign investment because it is killing our economy. The interest rate should also come down, so that people can stop living on credit.”

“Down with crime and corruption and the whole country will fix itself,” Des Metzler, an antique salesman said. - IOL
