Johannesburg - The EFF Economic Freedom March has arrived at its first stop, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) n Joburg’s CBD.

Malema addressed the crowd from a temporary stage that had been set up outside the building.

“We don't want a toothless Reserve Bank that sleeps with white capital and forgets about the poor,” said Malema.

Deputy governor of the Reserve Bank came on stage to receive the memorandum from the secretary general of the EFF, Godrich Gardee.

Some of the demands of the memorandum include:

* Greater state control over SARB

* Abandon inflation rate targets

* Establishment of a state bank

The EFF said that if the Reserve Bank did not respond to their demands in 30 days they would shut down the institution.

SARB deputy governor welcomed the EFF to the Reserve Bank and said they would study the contents of the memorandum before responding.

Malema thanked the Reserve Bank for showing the EFF respect.

The 4-000 strong march has now started to move again, towards the Chamber of Mines and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

 Before setting off from the Mary Fitzgerald Square on Tuesday morning, Malema took to the makeshift stage on the back of a truck as the crowd chanted: “ Juju Juju Juju”.

He called for high discipline for the march.

“Do not allow agent provocateurs to hijack our march,” he said.

The EFF leader said white capital’s days were numbered.

“Today we own the streets of Johannesburg. We will warn all of them that today is the day to remember,” he said.
