Sydney - Police in the Australian capital Canberra on Friday said they had seized 28kg of methamphetamine with a street value of around A$25-million, media reported.

The drug, also known as ice or crystal meth, was found hidden in the car of a 51-year-old man, police spokesman Shane Scott told reporters, according to broadcaster ABC.

“This amount of drugs could equate to 280 000 street deals valued at over 25 million dollars,” Scott said.

The discovery prompted a search of four houses in Canberra suburbs, in which police seized one more kilogram of meth and other drugs, ABC said.

Experts say the use of the drug has reached “epidemic” proportions in parts of Australia. - Sapa-dpa
