London - A billionaire with a love of extreme sports has been killed after being thrown from his high-powered speedboat. Norwegian philanthropist Erik Henriksen, 58, had lived in Britain for more than a decade after building his own stately home in 366 acres in the Cotswolds.

The shipping and energy tycoon, who had two children, died along with a 41-year-old man who was also thrown out when the 1 000hp, 34ft boat apparently hit a wave in the Caribbean Sea off the Cayman Islands where the billionaire also had a property.

Neighbours described Mr Henriksen, who was a friend of the late Formula One driver James Hunt, as a daredevil. He recently put his mansion in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, on the market for £17million after splitting from his wife Anne.

Mr Henriksen founded the Aqua Nirvana Foundation which provides clean and safe water in developing countries. Police in the Cayman Islands are investigating the deaths on November 9.
