One person was killed on Saturday when a moderate earthquake struck the Sichuan region of south-western China.
The US Geological Survey measured the quake at a magnitude of 5.9 and said it hit 39 kilometres north-west of Kangding in sparsely populated western Sichuan at a depth of 14.6 kilometres.
Chinese geologists measured the quake at magnitude 6.3.
The fatality occurred when a person was hit by falling objects, but widespread damage and injuries were not reported, the China
News Service said.
Earthquakes strike China regularly.
